Fort Caroline Shores and Arlington offer plenty of great events planned year-round. The Jacksonville Jazz Festival is held every April, the Spring Music Fest, Planetfest and Springing the Blues Festival top the list for music lovers. Amongst the many family fun opportunities offered throughout the year, The Jacksonville Film Festival is held every May, the Freedom, Fanfare & Fireworks celebration is held for Independence Day, and the Agricultural Fair is held in November. Originally organized as a two-year community college, Jacksonville University opened its doors in 1934. In 1950, the College relocated to its present Fort Caroline area site in its first permanent structure, the Founders Building. With the decision to expand to a four-year program, Jacksonville Junior College became Jacksonville University in 1956. Jacksonville University is accredited to award Bachelor’s and Master's degrees, is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music and the National Association of Schools of Dance, and has a strong accredited School of Nursing program. Jacksonville University has a diverse population of more than 2,000 students from 47 states and 44 countries. Half of the traditional undergraduate population lives on campus.

The Fort Caroline National Memorial is located in the Fort Caroline Shores and Arlington area, depicting the historical efforts of the French and Spanish explorers. The site offers educational programs, hiking trails and picnicking, while viewing the scenic St. Johns River in the background. Civil War reenactments are held here along with informative interpretations of the Union soldiers’ daily life. Fort Caroline National Memorial, a unit of the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, is located in the East Arlington section of Jacksonville.

For sports enthusiasts, the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars play home games just across the river from the Jacksonville University campus located in the Fort Caroline Shores and Arlington area. In addition to football, spectator sports opportunities include minor league baseball, basketball and ice hockey as well as a professional soccer franchise. The Players Championship, a premier event on the PGA tour, the Bausch and Lomb women’s Tennis Association tournament and Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) events are held locally in the neighboring Ponte Vedra Beach area. The World Golf Hall of Fame is less than a half-hour drive away.
